Living On A Prayer: Flyers vs Islanders Tonight

After a disappointing loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday, the Philadelphia Flyer’s playoff dreams are living on a prayer.  Coming off of a 2 day break, the Flyers will face the New York Islanders tonight on Long Island.  These two teams have the potential to be very competitive, with the Flyers winning the first match up 7-0 and then losing 4-3 during a shoot out.  If the Flyers win tonight they will be within 3 points of the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference, the 8th spot is currently held by the Islanders.  The Flyers have a record of winning on Long Island, taking home a victory the past 7 times they played on Long Island ice.  The Islanders are looking for their first trip back to the playoffs since 2007.
In order to take home a win tonight the Flyers have to come into each period strong, take Andrew McDonald out of the equation for a power play, leave no goal unanswered and function as a unit. Starting in the net tonight for the Flyers will be Steve Mason which finally gives Ilya Bryzgalov a break; the Flyer goaltender has started 22 straight games this season. Matt Read, who has been consistent in his scoring ability recently, has a 2 goal average against the Islanders, he will be fighting to get the puck in back of the net tonight.
With a 2 day break and rested legs the Flyers hope to recapture the success they had during their 4 game winning streak that they were on prior to Saturday. The Flyers have dominated during this series and are now fighting to claim the spot in the playoffs that the Islanders are defending.  The Flyers have to be prepared to play 60 minutes or this could be another embarrassing loss and end to their playoff dreams. The Flyers have to continue to find a way to gain points and keep their dreams alive.
