Trade Deadline Closed: Flyers additions

As the trade deadline closed today at 3pm the Flyers had added three players to their roaster: Jay Rosehill (forward), Adam Hall (center) and Steve Mason (goaltender).

Philadelphia traded forward Harry Zolniercayk in exchange for Jay Rosehill, who was at Flyers practice today.  Zolniercsyk, 25, attended Brown University and this season has had some controversial hits. Notably Zolnierczk, was suspended four games for charging Senators forward Mike Lundin.  Rosehill, 27, has spent the whole season playing for the Ducks AHL affiliate Norfolk. Last season Rosehill played 31 games for Toronto, he has no scores to his name and spent 60 minutes in the penalty box. Rosehill may be able to fit into the line up for the Flyers due to the numerous forwards that are injured (Talbot, Briere, Shelley). Is it likely Rosehill will see the ice with the Flyers or land in their AHL affiliate?

Acquired from Tampa Bay is Right Forward Adam Hall, who will be wearing Flyers jersey #18. Hall, with good face off numbers at 54.9% and a penalty killer, will likely replace Talbot who is out for the rest of the season with a broken leg. Here is a quick recap on Hall’s busy month: in March he was placed on waivers by the Lightnings, claimed by the Carolina Hurricans and played 6 games and then earlier this week traded back to the Lightnings and placed on waivers once again before being claimed by the Flyers. This season Hall has no goals and four assists in 26 games.

To round out the trade deadline the Flyers, in exchange for goalie Michael Leighton and a 3rd round draft, have added former Blue Jackets Steve Mason.  In his rookie year 08’-09’, Mason won the Calder Trophy and was a leading force behind the Jackets play off run. This season Mason has not had as great of a season and a change of scenery will offer this goalie a fresh start.  With the addition of Mason to the team, Bryzgalov, who has been the lone man in the net, might get some relief. Philadelphia is looking for Mason to re-find his form in the Flyers net. There is a possibility if Mason performs, he will be Bryzgalov’s replacement, creating some major cap space, but let’s not get too far ahead of the season, there are still 13 games to be played.
Jay Rosehill (forward), Adam Hall (center) and Steve Mason (goaltender) round out trade deadline decisions. It will be interesting to see Hall fill the skates of injured Talbot and Mason come into his own in the Flyers net.  Philadelphia has 13 games remaining and 4 teams separating them from the play offs.
